LAE Daily Brief - 04/29/26
Round-up of the most critical LAE news from the past 24 hours
China’s Low-Altitude Economy (LAE) is experiencing rapid regulatory formalization and practical deployment. The release of 31 national typical application cases by the NDRC and the implementation of new mandatory national standards for UAVs mark a definitive shift from conceptual planning to standardized, large-scale commercial operations.
National Policy & Standardization
NDRC Releases First Batch of 31 LAE Typical Application Cases (国家发展改革委)
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released the first batch of 31 typical application cases for the low-altitude economy, covering eight major sectors: agriculture and forestry, inspection operations, low-altitude logistics, convenient flight services, emergency rescue, surveying and mapping, urban governance, and cultural tourism. Highlighted cases include a cross-city drone logistics route between Shenzhen and Dongguan, which has completed over 50,000 flights and 200,000 deliveries, reducing transport time by 80% compared to ground logistics. The release aims to provide replicable models to accelerate the high-quality development of the LAE sector nationwide. [1]
Two Mandatory National Standards for Civil UAV Management Take Effect May 1 (国家标准)
Starting May 1, 2026, two mandatory national standards led by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) will officially take effect: the “Requirements for Real-Name Registration and Activation of Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicles” and the “Specifications for Operational Identification of Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems.” Under these new regulations, all civil UAVs must actively transmit identity, position, speed, and status information throughout their operations. This marks the entry of China’s UAV management into an era of full-process traceability, significantly enhancing airspace safety and regulatory oversight. [2]
Beijing Implements Comprehensive Drone Ban Effective May 1 (北京市无人驾驶航空器管理规定)
The “Beijing Municipal Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Management Regulations” will come into effect on May 1, 2026, designating the entire administrative area of Beijing as controlled airspace. All outdoor flight activities will require prior application and approval. Furthermore, the sale and rental of UAVs and their core components within Beijing are prohibited without public security approval. In response to the policy, major manufacturer DJI is pulling all its drone products from both physical and online retail channels in the Beijing market before the May 1 deadline. Existing registered drones can still be brought into the city by their owners. [3]
Commercial Operations & Market Growth
Autoflight V2000CG Selected for NDRC Case List and Secures UAE Order (峰飞航空)
Autoflight’s V2000CG “Kairiou,” the world’s first 2-ton eVTOL to receive the CAAC’s “triple certificate” (Type Certificate, Production Certificate, and Airworthiness Certificate), was selected for the NDRC’s national LAE typical case list for its application in offshore oil platform operations. In August 2025, the aircraft completed the world’s first 2-ton eVTOL offshore oil platform supply flight, covering 150 kilometers in 58 minutes. Following this successful validation, UAE-based Falcon Aviation Services placed an order for 50 units to be used for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company operations, demonstrating the global competitiveness of Chinese eVTOL technology.
