LAE Daily brief
Round-up of the most critical LAE news from the past 24 hours
China’s low-altitude economy is experiencing rapid expansion alongside tightening regulatory frameworks. While the sector saw its largest single financing event this year with Volant Aviation’s $300M C round and continued innovation from DJI, the regulatory landscape is shifting. Beijing’s sweeping ban on consumer drone sales highlights a growing emphasis on national security, even as the NDRC broadens the scope of approved commercial applications.
Industry Developments
Volant Aviation (沃兰特) Secures $300 Million C Round
On April 27, 2026, Volant Aviation officially announced the completion of its C round of financing, raising $300 million. Regulatory Updates
Beijing Imposes Sweeping Consumer Drone Ban
Starting May 1, 2026, the Beijing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Management Regulations will officially take effect. The city will impose a blanket ban on the new sales, leasing, and shipping of consumer drones and 17 categories of key drone components within its administrative region. Furthermore, the entire city of Beijing will be designated as controlled airspace for UAVs, meaning all outdoor flights—regardless of location—will require prior approval from air traffic management authorities. The regulations also strictly prohibit travelers from transporting or carrying unauthorized drones into the capital [3].
